Relationship to General Education
First and for most, within every job you need a code of conduct or ethics. Nevertheless, within the entertainment industry you must always be able to put that conduct into action at any time, for there are constantly things going on where you have to use your judgment quickly, and without any discrimination. Working closely with the radio stations, you are exposed to various groups of people with different cultures and beliefs. You always have to keep in mind the surroundings in which you are in, when working in the community and representing a company, especially when improvising has to be done at an event.
Introduction to Religion RST150
A general education course that can be established from this internship is the religion course taken prior to this internship. The stations in which I work for do not only represent Miami’s night life, but also care for the community and every individual in it. Hence, we also do charitable events, and this is where a course on faith values can be tied into, for the simple reason of the importance stressed on charitable works. In addition, in introduction to religion there are teachings on how people should not be judgmental of others, due to the fact that what may seem to be about a group of people can always be false, and there is only one person, God, that can judge us. I do not think that there many people that do not relate a radio station with parties, alcohol and profanity. However, I can speak from experience that is not what they are about, at least concerning Power 96 and 99.9 Kiss Country. Yes, both stations do throw very popular parties, yet this is not the core of their work. We do want the best for our listeners and we stress that safety is always first.Like previously mentioned in my activities description, Kiss Country hosts a summer reading program along with the Children's Service Council of Broward, where we donate books to young readers. In addition to live entertainment from a caricature and preschool music, we strive to put smiles on the faces of young children ranging from the toddler ages to about 6 years old and sometimes older; this being a great satisfaction for me and my co-workers. Other charitable works are those that are done, are to raise money for children hospitals such as Joe DiMaggio (Kiss Country) and Miami Children’s Hospital’s Radio Lollipop (Power 96). For these two events the stations host a marathon where people have the opportunity to call in and donate money. I have had the privilege to work for the radiothon for Joe DiMaggio Hospital, where we raised $255,143 for the hospital.
